With more than 40 years of experience, Tobias is an astute and accomplished businessman as well as scientist. Highly skilled in conceptualizing, developing, and implementing comprehensive global business plans for new and innovative products.
He has strongly contributed to the development of the concept of point of care over the last few decades by leading the international development of the Triage platform while at Biosite and by his direct involvement in the launch of the Quo-Test HbA1c platform at Quotient Diagnostics (now EKF Diagnostics). He acquired further insight into the POC business while working at Cholestech, Alere, and more recently at as Expand consultant to Boditech in Korea and FIND in Geneva. In addition, thanks to his multi-disciplinary and scientific background he successfully led the emergence of the healthcare – ICT convergence at SK Telecom as head of the Healthcare R&D group (now Invites Healthcare).
Having worked with American, British, Korean, French, German companies and having done business on all continents, he has developed an unequaled multicultural understanding. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and has an MBA from INSEAD.
Johan has been working with Medical Devices and Point of Care In Vitro Diagnostics for over 35 years, focusing on cardiology products and applications.
He has been part of many start-up companies in Europe and in the USA and has had International Product Management positions in Cardiac Science, Roche Diagnostics, and Siemens. In positions as International Product Manager and CEO, Johan has focused on initiating, financing, developing products and concepts in Cardiology in MedTech and POC IVD. He has led several international launches of new and improved products.
Johan’s interest in understanding the users’ challenges and needs combined with an interest in new technologies and applications has improved clinical products and procedures and has resulted in several patents that are now successfully implemented in products worldwide.
In recent years, the focus has been on cardiac biomarkers such as high sensitivity Troponin and cMyC for triaging chest pain patient with suspected Acute Myocardial Infarction on Point of Care systems.
He has a Master of Science in Engineering Physics with a Business Administration and Management degree.
Charles specializes in supporting and mentoring companies to develop and implement competitive novel customer focused solution which directly impact and improve patients’ lives and the tasks of clinicians.
Through his extensive network in the world of IVD, Charles has a keen eye for uncovering key market information and understanding the implication for clients. Able to translate visions into ideas and transporting customer’s unmet needs to novel competitive solutions, he invariably contributes to the process of a product development in an innovative yet pragmatic way.
Having worked for over 35 years in the healthcare industry, Charles encountered success in both local and global commercial roles. He has extensive IVD industry experience through a variety of roles in sales and product management at Immuno-Diagnostics, Baxter Healthcare, and Roche Diagnostics POC IVD Marketing.
His achievements include the launch of IVD products in laboratory coagulation, immunoassay, and a spectrum of professional POC solutions for blood gas, coagulation, glucose, immunoassay as IT connected solutions for professional use.
With a Bsc in Biological sciences to start, he also obtained a degree in marketing, a project management qualification from the London Business School, and a LEAN bronze belt.
